Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic waves to stimulate healing, reduce pain, and improve tissue function. It is commonly used to treat chronic tendon injuries, helping you recover faster and return to your daily activities.

How does shockwave therapy work?

  • Stimulates healing – Acoustic waves deliver mechanical energy to the affected area, encouraging biological processes involved in tissue repair.
  • Improves circulation – Treatment promotes local blood flow and support tissue recovery.
  • Reduces pain – Shockwave reduces the sensitivity of pain-sensing nerve endings, helping decrease discomfort and improve pain-related function.

What happens during treatment?

At The Physio Approach, our Registered Physiotherapists are trained in the application of Shockwave Therapy.  A thin layer of gel is applied to the treatment area and your Physiotherapist will apply pressure with a handheld applicator over the affected tissue, while slowly moving it around. The device delivers repeated acoustic pulses into the area. You may feel tapping or mild discomfort during treatment, depending on the condition and intensity used.

Conveniently located in North York at Yonge and Finch,Shockwave therapy works best as part of a comprehensive physiotherapy program, which may include strengthening exercises, mobility work, and gradual return to activity.
